Purple Chili from Nara Pref., Japan

img_8418-1Purple Chili called Murasaki Togarashi in Japanese is a kind of ‘Yamato Yasai’ vegetables of Nara Prefecture near Kyoto.

Nara was one of old capital while 8th century before Kyoto . When I visited Nara, I could find many restaurant which serve Yamato Yasai. Also we can find some Kyo-Yasai in Kyoto.

If you are vegetarian, you may like various unique vegetables while your trip!

      Hi Dymoon, Actually it’s not hot at all. I could find various types of green chili but mostly not so hot and people here just enjoy it as BBQ or fried with other ingredients like meat or seafood. The texture is crunchy when we eat raw and really good for salad. According to the web. this type of purple chili(togarashi in Japanese) contains anthocyanin. But it says the color will turn green when we cook with heat. That’s a kind of unique character of this vege 😉
