Traditional Food in Niigata Pref, Tohoku, Japan

Enjoyed dried salted salmon, traditional Japanese food from Niigata in northern part of Japan (facing Japan Sea).

Murakami city in Niigata Pref is the famous place for the food and it’s made in the cold winter air until summer for almost six month. Also known as low temperature fermented food and it has rich flavor from each slice of the salmon.

Sprinkled a little Sake (I used Aramasa Brewery in Akita Pref. in the same area  Tohoku, northern Japan region) on it 5-10mins before eat, it enhanced more umami.

If you don’t want to use Sake, just enjoy as it is and you may also like to enjoy with pasta or cooked with rice and other ingredients.

Japan is consists of 47 Pref and each region has a rich and colorful food culture. For me, I can’t miss enjoying local flavor wherever I go…even biz trip.

Hope you all will find and like unique Japanese traditional food while your trip to Japan! Enjoy 😊
